Both links show the same pictures - using different music and video transitions. I doubt if that is the original sound - I'd like to think that we get more of a sound-idea through the official "teasers" so far. I look forward to the next one this friday :D

I doubt the sound output, especially as the instrument does NOT look switched on, ( NO LIGHTS or SCREEN )

Although the Genos is a new name, new features and mind blowing new sounds , because of the legacy sounds it will probably still sound like the Tyros we all know and love if we want it too. Whether we like touch screens etc. or not I don't think Yamaha could afford to bypass these technical advancements, especially when most of the other keyboard manufacturers are now using them on their products but I'm not sure how well the absence of the actual voice and style selector buttons is going to go down with some people. It may be that visually impared players if not deterred by this will be more reliant on the registration presets and 3rd party registration sets.🙄 Afteral, where else can they go other than staying with Tyros? Korg, Ketron ,Wersi etc all have touch screen technology and Roland don't really have a flagship arranger as such. A friend of mine has recently bought a secondhand organ and the dealer told him that they are selling quite a few organs again at the moment. Not sure what this means if any sign.

If using Legacy voices they will probably sound a lot better being used through the new technology. I am waiting to hear if we will be able to use our third party sample voice packs because I think the Yamaha packs will be updated and we will be able to download those again as we have always done. Hoping we will be able to convert others.
I think this is going to be a cracking keyboard. 76 note and only a couple of inches longer than Tyros 5 and a little bit lighter.

Do you mean the speakers and woofer that go with Genos or do you mean using extra amplification for gigging because that will be the same as you use now. Genos will have black speakers and woofer The figure of £4700 these will be included.

Jason Lee I suppose it depends on what our priorities are. Some people always buy the latest keyboard without caring , or rather worrying and saying. " you only live once" As I did. I have a Tyros 5-76 setup and lower keyboard/ bass pedals connected with midi yet I still use the Tyros 4 for my local gigs. This time although it is nice to see the Genos on the horizon I'm feeling that it's more important for me to take the money from my gigs with the T4 and what would buying the Genos warrant spending more of that hard earned money? Would buying a Genos get me more popularity and more gig bookings? I don't think so because the people I play for won't be able to tell if the sound is better. I am really an organ player at heart and enjoy playing this more for my own personal pleasure so more interested in the equipment I have got now (for once)I also have a Ringway and my old Haven Crumar organs for this. Although I don't play the Tyros 5 much it will be a backup in case my Tyros 4 fails one day. Of course I will have to learn whether the Genos is compatible with the software I sell but I don't want to have to buy a Genos to find whether this is so. I am tired of that buying merry-go-round now. Leave the Genos for others and take a back seat in the theatre for me.. It's not as bad as when one has to buy a new smart phone because the company that produces them writes update software that deliberately makes the old phone unusable over time to make you have to buy a new one.I think most Tyros work for a long time and some are hardly played yet in time will be cheap to buy secondhand. Some people get around in old cars ok. Sorry if I seem boring and mundane but that £4700 price figure is the passing bell tolling for me I'm affraid I'm now confined permanently to the secondhand meerkat but it doesn't matter because one day I will be physically obsolete if you know what I mean.I'm also seeing all kinds of things in a non linear way these days and not sure it's a great thing to keep burdening the planet with all this new stuff in a throw away society when there is plenty already to re-use. Apologies again for my newly found ,old fashioned values 🙂

Hi Jason,
I expect a lot of people feel the same way as you and if you are happy with gigging with the equipment you have and it earns money that is all that matters. We all have to make our own decisions and for our own reasons. I have always liked keeping up with the latest technology though don't always understand it all , but it is a challenge to the old brain cells.
Have just watched the last teaser and Genos was seen twice so I am pretty sure some of the sounds and styles are now on the new keyboard. Just waiting now to see a Demo.

Absolutely Eileen and I hope what I said didn't come across like I was telling other people that what I have decided is what they should also do. I will of course look forward to enjoying what other people do on the Genos like yourself and also those on youtube etc. The teasers sent me on a bit of a wild goose chase but the demo should be good. Looking forward to watching it 8-)

Just received a E Mail from Soundpacks Co UK
They are saying that the Genos appears to be much more "dance music"orientated with more modern features than it's predecessor.

Genos Specifications and user memory:
Reading the specifications, the keyboard has 1.8gb of user memory for sample storage.
This means that if you currently have a 1gb board you will have nearly double the storage,
however, if you are a 2gb Mutek board user, you will actually lose space.

They are also pushing the Korg Pa4x they had a huge software update to V2 which has added all new styles,
voices and given the keyboard a complete update.

cheers

At this stage George don't believe all you read. Yamaha will have given a lot of thought to this latest keyboard and thought of Home Players , Gigging Players and now also are trying to interest the young. I am sure the new styles and voices will interest us all in some way. Are you going to see one of the Demo's being held by most shops around the country.

I also received that email, because I once purchased from Leigh Wilbraham his Cinema organ pack-2 for the Tyros 3 and 4....and I can now play that pack on my s970 thanks to Eileen's good help (YEM). :!:

I will never buy a Korg keyboard, stay true to Yamaha ... but if they deserve criticism, they'll get that from me too. :)

I like it all Eileen bar the price and the proposed trade in for my Ty 4.
There are still some features on Ty4 that I have never used, and I think the same would apply to Genos.
It appears an improvement on Ty5, but I will be staying with my trusty Ty4.

We all have the choice and if you are happy with Tyros 4 that is all that matters. I must admit that I do like to have a change and keep up with modern technology as well as having better sounds and styles, but as I said it is each to there own and I hope members who buy Genos will be very happy with it.

Re: GENOS

Tom,
Eileen is right - I kept my Tyros 4 and returned my Tyros 5 because I did not believe it was that much better than the T4 for the money it was going to cost me. I did not find it to be a bad keyboard - just did not offer more for the money in my opinion. But now the Genos seems to be a huge improvement over my Tyros 4 so I made the change.

I am not sure there is a market here in the USA for my Tyros 4. I have had it for sale now for nearly 2 weeks and have not had a single inquiry. Even the scammers have not responded (Ha Ha). So if you can get anything at all for your Tyros 4 you are better off then we seem to be here.

If I were you I would try to attend one of the demos. We don't have them here and for the most part end up buying blind so to speak. Our big music stores don't even have arrangers to go try. Last week I went to a major music store and the only arranger on the shelf was a Yamaha S970. No Casios or Korgs at all. All the rest were cheap keyboards or synths.

Good luck with your decision. Hey, us old folks don't have to have a reason to enjoy the rest of our life. Go for it!

I think waiting until the April event is a great idea. Glenda and I might see you there. We are thinking about making one last trip to the music events and are looking at the
April event. Like others here, health issues have kept us from traveling the past year. We will see.

Anyway, by then you will have a lot of owners who will provide you with

Have now seen the pictures of Genos and I can,t believe that Yamaha are sticking with same satellite speakers ( like pigs ears stuck on the end of the keyboard ) and the sub woofer placed under the machine. Which planet are they on. How can they encourage young people to play keyboards with all this paraphernalia and a price of over £ 4000. I'll stick with my PSR 970 or maybe have another look at Korg which many dealers prefer.
Cheers Alf.

Hi Alf

The speakers are not the same as Tyros and have been re-designed for Genos.
The problem is that some customers do not want speakers built into the Genos / Tyros as this would add extra weight and compromise the sound quality.

Hello Alf,

I don't quite get your point  Because Genos has a better sound quality vs. previous versions, Yamaha designed new speakers that can bring this sound across. And the new speakers are quite a bit more substantial (they are heavier too). So for those folks who like the "package look and sound" I think Yamaha did the right thing. And for everyone else who wants something even better - the world of speakers and amps is all yours - the interfaces are all there - even a digital output ! :-)

Cheers, Roland
